Reading Week

Image
(The word challenge) (https://challenge.ie/images/logo2@2x.png) Hey im going to talk about the things I learned about in reading week.   The tutorial was very useful I feel that I could include projectiles in my game as a sort of puzzle the removing of the objects is very useful not only when they engage with projectiles but with different additions like keys opening doors could also delete the door in a way so this could be useful for my game.   The other things im not really sure how to include Im sure they will be useful in the future especially the custom methods and functions. I feel I could use the custom functions to solve problems with my game but im not exactly sure how I can do it right now. The challenge caught me thinking for a while but eventually I figured out what to do and I solved the challenged. Im glad it was a bit difficult so I can work on the skills I already know in different ways. I hope you enjoyed reading see you soon.

Game Vision Statement

(Image of a low poly giant broken down) (https://i.ytimg.com/vi/cbLrAI7GWnA/maxresdefault.jpg) Hello today I'm discussing the pitch for a game I'm interested in making let’s begin.   I’m interested in making a puzzle game with a ruin exploration theme. The puzzle game was an interested of mien to make I was always fascinated with games like portal how they can make you think differently about puzzles and getting from a to be I intend to make a game where the user will be challenged and will have to think about what they’re doing and figure out how to get to a place.    The theme of ruin exploration interests me. I'm inspired by movies like Indian Jones where he must figure out his way around traps to stay alive and get the treasure. Something like the Lego video games where you must push certain things into place or stand on button or place certain elements in different place. All these features I intend to be included in the game along with jumping puzzles and even a

Unity Tutorial 03

(Unity logo) (https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/1/19/Unity_Technologies_logo.svg/1024px-Unity_Technologies_logo.svg.png) Hey im going to talk about the Unity tutorial for this week This week was a very interesting week the Unity tutorial had a lot of info that hopefully should be useful for the future. Setting up boundaries that the player cannot cross is a useful tool so players do not enter parts of the map they are not intended for hopefully I can expand this into a 3d space alter on however it was good stepping stone . The most important part of the this unity tutorial I my opinion was the prefabs and the randomiser this in my opinion will be useful to many people who have items that can be used multiple times however im still wondering how too make this animals continuously spawn I hope this will be explained in a later tutorial.   I am very excited for upcoming tutorials and thinking of ways to incorporate the game mechanics they teach you into my own v

Games MDA

( iamge of a gold picture frame) ( https://i.pinimg.com/736x/42/db/08/42db088e9fccd7c026ed54a501e727c1.jpg) Hey im going to talk about the reading for this week about the mda design framework. The mda design framework means mechanic dynamic and aesthetic. I do not feel like I fully understand what the design framework yet I feel if I watch a few more videos or read more articles I will get a better understanding but from the article is that the mechanics are a smaller to building blocks of the game like jumping or swimming or looting which help the game progress and move forward. The dynamic is how the players input affect he mechanics and what outputs it in turn creates. Finally the aesthetic is what emotions the player has towards the game due to the mechanics and dynamics. I feel from my understanding after reading the two articles and watching the video provided that the mda design framework is useful to test how a game is going to affect players and how will consumers react

Feedback Strategies

(picture of man looking at the word feedback) (https://blog.edesk.com/resources/wp-content/uploads/2018/12/4-creative-ways-to-ultilize-negative-feedback-min.jpg) Hey im going to talk about the two articles I read on feedback and go back to week two and read one on time management. First article (https://www.businessinsider.com/some-common-time-managements-fails-2016-7?r=US&IR=T#they-get-distracted-easily-3) is on how unsuccessful people mismanage there time.   The article talks about how people do not manage there time, correctly and the ways they do it. The first thing is they do not schedule this makes people late for scheduled things like trains buses etc. IT then states that they do not record or have a list which feeds into an article from week two that was all about checklists. The article then goes on to talk about getting distracted and procrastinating and how this damages there time management. The article the goes onto talk about how people who mismanage time do not pla

Game Idea Research

(Picture of several cogs) (https://www.theknowledgeguru.com/dev/wp-content/uploads/2013/07/learning-game-design-mechanics-1.png)  Hello im going to talk about some game mechanics that I think I will include in my game (Image of a door puzzle in Skyrim) (https://i.ytimg.com/vi/vWY7Nwuz5Nc/maxresdefault.jpg) Since im making a puzzle game I want to include some interesting puzzles. I am reminded of exploring ancient ruin is Skyrim with an artefact on this artefact there would be an inscription and eventually you would get to a door where you would have to turn several wheels of picture for them to match up and in turn open the door I was thinking of including something similar to this in my game. (Picture of the game temple run) (https://www.ghacks.net/wp-content/uploads/2013/01/temple-run-2.jpg) I was also thinking about how when Indiana Jones takes the golden statue in the first movie the temple starts collapsing.  I was wondering if the game would maybe turn into a quick race back to

Unity Tutorial 02

(C# logo) (https://static.gunnarpeipman.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/10/csharp-featured.png) Hello today im going to be discussing what I learned this week’s unity tutorial In the tutorial I learned how to make a car move fluently and I know have an extremely basic understanding of c# and have a basic knowledge of how to make players move and interact with objects (colliding with them) I also found the challenge interesting a bit more difficult than the tutorial but enjoyable I must do more research on other unity tutorials   that might help me in making an   actual video game but if feel like I like this tutorial is a stepping stone in the right direction and hopefully the next one will be even more challenging. Im looking forward to making a detailed game I have been playing a lot more unity built games recently for example Verdun/Tannenberg which I find amazing that it is built in unity there is so much detail and so much going on I still can’t really believe that people can ma

Game Elements

Talks about what a game actually is which Continues from last week’s articles which was talking about a similar topic. The article also talks about the nuclear aspects of a game for example player’s goals objectives player interaction and others designers use these to make a video game and would use some of these. The article then goes into critical analysis and how it’s deferent than a review of the game. It states that a critical analysis is talks about the formal elements how they interact and why the designer chose them. It also asks us to find what the core of the game is . The second article Game design research by Annakaisa Kultima. The article talks about what is game design it mentions that different game designer have differ

Feedback Thoughts

(Image of 5 faces showing different emotions) (https://d2slcw3kip6qmk.cloudfront.net/marketing/blog/2019Q1/giving-feedback/how-to-give-feedback-header@2x.png) Hello again im going to be talking about feedback and the articles I have read about it. The first article How to Tame Your Inner Critic: A Simple Habit to Rewire Your Brain by Joel Almeida talks about how the brain is a mess and is always in movement almost like river which creates a mess and turns you depressive going through   ups and downs. Thea article talks about struggle and how stress and how if you do not go for the small victories you will become more and more cynical and depressed but if you set small goals and achieve them you will go further and further in life. The article talks about setbacks and how they can launch you back into bad habits personally I experienced this with fastening and for a while a setback would cost me a day or two but now I know I can just keep going ill still achieve my goal. The second ar

(Image of red Ford pickup truck) ( https://content.fortune.com/wp-content/uploads/2014/10/2015-ford-f-150-06.jpg) Hi today im going to talk about what I learned from my first Unity tutorial I tried to mess around with Unity before watch a tutorial by a Youtuber called Brackeys so not everything was new to me what I really learned about was the layout and how you can save your layouts when you create a new layout. The tutorial helped me remember a lot about how props are placed in Unity and how the camera movements work it also delved more into placements on x,y,z axis. I also never knew about importing props into Unity in other tutorials they would simply use a cube or sphere and give it physics. I also learned about how to scale objects and the different movement tools in the top right. A together the tutorial was very helpful in making me remember how unity works what all the tabs do and how items are placed. I am very excited to develop my skills in unity more and go on to the n

For example I would personally consider a game too something that has objectives you can fill out and when you complete those objectives you get rewards and progress forward, however another definitions of what a game is could be that it is a voluntary activity that leads no material benefit and one cannot be forced to do it. His blog interested me originally because she shows how easy some games can be too make he gives an example in the blog of a simple; race game.   The second article by Annakaisa Kultima was about how game ideas are produced and

I have read several article provided and the one that interested me most was how checklists train your brain to be more productive by Lauren Marchese it was interesting because I already use checklists in my day to day life for the things I need to get done during the week. I decided too incorporate this strategy into the entire schedule and for all modules not just his one and have made a checklist for all task to be done for next week. I have also decided that I would dedicate Monday and Saturday as my days for this module too try stay on top of

Technology and online tools

Some of the technological tools we used last year briefly with little success like twitter I personally do not use twitter but I see how it can be a useful tool for announcements. I hope to learn more about twitter and how it can be used and I see that there is more of an effort put into tits use this year than there was last year. I am familiar with google docs and I have used it for collage before. It is a useful tool to share info between family and friends. I wish more modules used google docs it would make things much easier to use. I feel this module was by far the easiest to navigate technologically and the
