Hey im going to talk about the reading for this week about the mda design framework.
The mda design framework means mechanic dynamic and aesthetic.
I do not feel like I fully understand what the design framework yet I feel if I
watch a few more videos or read more articles I will get a better understanding
but from the article is that the mechanics are a smaller to building blocks of
the game like jumping or swimming or looting which help the game progress and
move forward. The dynamic is how the players input affect he mechanics and what
outputs it in turn creates. Finally the aesthetic is what emotions the player
has towards the game due to the mechanics and dynamics.
I feel from my understanding after reading the two articles
and watching the video provided that the mda design framework is useful to test
how a game is going to affect players and how will consumers react to the game.
This can be useful to do market research on a particular game if you dissect it
using mda you can gather a lot of information. NA example being No man’s sky if
you look at the game and sue mda you can see that the mechanics of the game are
based on exploration and gathering resources for upgrades. The dynamics are how
the player explores the world and how they acquire this resources. Finally the aesthetic
is how the player is affected by both and what feeling does it produce with him
or her these feeling at the start where most likely disappointment due to the
fact he game did not deliver all that was promised but now a few years after release
that the game has worked on updates that are free those feeling have surely
changed.
