Hello I will be talking about video game design articles
The first article I was asked to read by Ian Schreiber It’s
a blog from 2009 I have read before it talks about what a game actually is and
the different definitions of what a game is. For example I would personally
consider a game too something that has objectives you can fill out and when you
complete those objectives you get rewards and progress forward, however another
definitions of what a game is could be that it is a voluntary activity that
leads no material benefit and one cannot be forced to do it. His blog interested
me originally because she shows how easy some games can be too make he gives an
example in the blog of a simple; race game.
The second article by Annakaisa Kultima
was about how game ideas are produced and through interviews the article find
out how game developers produce their ideas. The interviewees talk about how
they develop game ides through different means some go on long walks some take
long showers some paly other games the article then states that most ideas and
game developers work in solitude I Don’t agree with this statement and I feel
that the interviews produced where not diverse enough as all the game designers
where Finish. I feel like if they got game designers from more than one country
the answers they could get would be much different. It also seems like the
article is trying to show how brainstorming doesn’t work for game idea generation
but again if they got people form several different places it would have given different
results.
The third article written by Vasiliev
Ilya talks about different ways of finding new and recycling old ideas. He talks
about the process of brainstorming and concentrating on an idea I personally use
the concentration idea which Annakaisa Kultima
also talks about a lot. The idea he most talks about is at the end the Ramsay
method which I haven’t heard till now seemed like an interesting way to develop
ideas since you really have to analyse the theme youre working with to dind
brand new ideas.
Thanks for reading hope you enjoyed
Hey Aleks,
ReplyDeleteIt was interesting to know what you learned from the articles and that you didn't just blindly agree with everything the article said. I have similar views with your interpretation of what a game is and I also agree that in the second article, the interviews should have been more diverse for more diverse answers. Any who, we all have our ways of coming up with ideas so we should just work with what works best for us.
